Career Profile: I proudly served the US Army during Desert Storm from 1991-1993. I worked for my family business ( Glen Oaks Golf Club ) from 1993 - 2002 and in 2009 became the President of the corporation. I began my fire career in 1997 as a volunteer with Bandy's VFD where I rose to the rank of Battalion Chief. Soon after I was employed by the Newton Fire Department ( 2002 ) where I was a ladder engineer / Fire Inspector. In 2003 I became a full time Fire Inspector with the Newton Fire Department and joined the NCFMA. 2006 was hired by the Charlotte Fire Department as a Fire Inspector and shortly after became the Haz-mat Inspector. I briefly left CFD in 2013 -2014 to return to the Newton Fire Department as their Fire Marshal, but returned at the end of 2014 to CFD to preform CO Inspections. Currently I am the Water Supply Officer for CFD.

Brian Kelly

Career Profile: From a young age, Brian Kelly has been impacted by the fire service. He was impacted by hearing stories about his father’s service as a member of Ogden Rescue Squad in New Hanover county, watching his neighbor’s home tragically burn, or attending 4-H Fire Safety Bowls. These were just some of the reason he and his friends from high school joined their local VFD’s in 1998. Shortly after joining Southwest Volunteer Fire Department in 1998, he was assigned the role of public education coordinator due to passion for public education. In 2002 he was hired by Jacksonville Fire Department as a rookie firefighter. After 10 years of service and being promoted up to the rank of Assistant Fire Marshal he transferred to Onslow County to become the youngest serving County Fire Marshal in the history of the county. For 7 years he served as the single member of the division alongside VFD’s assisting them with, over 300 fire investigations, strategic planning, ISO reductions, mergers, as well as establishing the first county owned department. In 2019, for a variety of reasons, he decided to return back to Jacksonville Fire & Emergency Services as their Fire Marshal where he still holds the rank of Battalion Chief. The following is a sample of different positions in which he has served in fire service organizations: • Appointed to the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Fire Marshals Association • Served as President of the Jacksonville Association of Professional Firefighters • Appointed to State Board of Directors for North Carolina Fire and Life Safety Educators • Elected to Chair for the North Carolina Fire and Life Safety Educators Eastern Region • Served as President of the Onslow County Firefighters Association • Chaired Safe Kids Onslow County • Served on the inaugural Jacksonville Youth Council 1998-1999

Career Profile: I joined Mooresville Fire-Rescue as Fire Marshal in August 2018 after serving for 13 years as the Assistant Fire Marshal in Franklin, Tennessee (a rapidly growing suburb of Nashville, TN). Prior to Franklin, I was the Fire Inspector in Jefferson City, TN for five years; this was the same department where I began as a volunteer firefighter during college. I have been the Fire Marshal for Boone Fire Department for the past 2 years.

Career Profile: Chief Henshaw is a third generation firefighter and the Fire Marshal for the City of Greensboro, N.C.. He received his B.S in Fire Protection Engineering and an M.S. in Safety, Security and Emergency Management with a specialty in Homeland Security from Eastern Kentucky University. He has worked in the private and public sector as a firefighter, fire and explosives investigator, fire inspector and as a fire protection consultant. Over the last twenty years he has responded to numerous multi-alarm fires and emergencies in North Carolina and on the east coast. After those events, he has worked diligently to change and administer state ordinances and codes to ensure the safety of the North Carolinians and the state’s first responders. Chief Henshaw, in his off time, is a fire buff and works on antique fire apparatus to preserve their history. His favorite apparatus manufacturers are American LaFrance and Mack. He resides in Greensboro with his wife, Julie, and children, Helena and Perry.

Career Profile: I started my fire service career at the City of Goldsboro Fire Department. I then decided to further my career by going to the City of Raleigh Fire Department where I spent 18 years. I worked my way from firefighter to captain. I served in several different special operations units, such as the Hazardous Materials Regional Response Team 4, Fire Investigations Team, Office of the Fire Marshal as a Deputy Fire Marshal and as an adjunct instructor in the Training Division. During this time period I also spent 13 years with the Town of Knightdale serving as Assistant Chief conducting inspections, plan reviews, training, and volunteer recruitment and retention duties. Currently during the past four plus years I have been serving as the Fire Division Chief/Fire Marshal for Johnston County.
